The radical challenge of Fratelli Tutti

St Francis and the Sultan, icon by Br. Robert Lenz, OFM

This year marks the 800th anniversary of St. Francis's writing of the Canticle of the Creatures

and the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis's encyclical Fratelli Tutti, inspired by St. Francis's visit to Sultan al-Malik al-Kamal in 1219.

Did you know that it was 800 years later (2019) that Pope Francis traveled to the United Arab Emirates for a conference on "global fraternity" - attended by rabbis, imams, swamis, patriarchs, and other religious officials?

There Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Cairo’s Al-Azhar Mosque, Sheikh Ahmad al-Tayeb,

signed the 'Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together.'
