Nano in schools

Nano’s lantern still shines bright in our schools…

St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Bicester

At St Mary’s, Nano Nagle’s spirit of compassion, courage and service resonates deeply with our mission, and we are excited to share this with our pupils.

The children will took part in an art-focused celebration inspired by Nano Nagle and her legacy.

English Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School, Sparkhill

Nano Nagle’s example has prompted many meaningful discussions within our school community about how we can live her values today. As a school, we have explored how small, everyday acts of mercy can demonstrate kindness, compassion, empathy, and care for others—qualities that Nano embodied so beautifully. These acts remind us that even one small action, or one individual, can make a significant difference, a message that strongly resonates with our pupils and staff.

We also spent time reflecting on her care for creation; as a result, the class tended to and tidied our school’s Peace Garden, ensuring it remains a calm, reflective space for prayer and a place where wildlife can flourish.

Faith was central to everything Nano did, and faith is central to all that we do as a school. Our mission statement affirms that we are a learning community centred in Christ, and Nano’s example has enabled the children to live this out through their acts of mercy, placing others before themselves, just as Christ and Nano did.
