Pilgrims in Hope
We are just over halfway through this Jubilee Year 2025 as ‘Pilgrims in Hope’. Through the beautifully symbolic logo for the year, we are reminded that a pilgrim journey is not an individual undertaking, but rather something communal.
The logo shows four stylised figures, representing all of humanity, coming from the four corners of the earth. They embrace each other to indicate the solidarity and fraternity which should unite all peoples. The figure at the front is holding onto the cross. It is not only the sign of the faith which this lead figure embraces, but also of hope, which can never be abandoned, because we are always in need of hope, especially in our moments of greatest need. There are the rough waves under the figures, symbolising the fact that life’s pilgrimage does not always go smoothly in calm waters. Often the circumstances of daily life and events in the wider world require a greater call to hope.
Walking through scripture
Walking through Scripture is a beautiful resource created as a result of a collaboration between The Catholic Bishops’ Conference England and Wales (Faith & Formation Manager) and Fleur Dorrell, Biblical Apostolate Manager, Bible Society. It is an accessible and inspirational resource for pilgrims today, as it can be used for both short and long pilgrimages, general walking and meditation, and for prayer and reflection at home.
It is designed for any one or any group who are:
About to embark on a pilgrimage.
Walking from one church to another.
Visiting a shrine or sacred place.
Walking as an opportunity to pray, reflect and meditate in the open air.
At home and wishing to make a spiritual walk with God.
Through using it, you can follow in the footsteps of Bible characters and the different reasons that people walked in the Bible.
Following our Scriptural ancestors
This is what the Lord says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
~ Jeremiah 6:16
It is suggested that in using the resource you should bring an open and prayerful heart, curiosity about the Bible, and a Bible app or a physical Bible to refer to different texts.
This resource offers a reflective journey through the Bible and invites you to follow our Scriptural ancestors as you walk physically and spiritually to your chosen destination.
It is divided into the following sections: i) An Introduction to walking in the Bible. ii) Key people who made significant walks in the Old and New Testaments. iii) Walking as a metaphor for spiritual growth.
At the end it also provides Resources for Further Reading and Reflection.
