February Reflection
Traditionally 2 February, The feast recalling Mary and Joseph presenting Jesus in the Temple, is the day when we celebrate Consecrated Life.
Nano Nagle’s charism was her fidelity to searching for union with God in contemplation. She chose education as a way of lifting the poor out of poverty. She had a compassionate love for anyone in need.
As Presentation Family, we value time for stillness, for personal prayer and prayer together. We try to take special care of the most vulnerable people and our planet earth. We believe as Nano did that education can bring about change. We are open and welcoming to all people and live with an open and generous heart.
“By degrees with the assistance of God, we may do a great deal.”
Nano Nagle (Letter VI)
“If I could be of any service in saving souls in any part of the globe,
I would willingly do all in my power.” Nano Nagle (Letter I)
February’s reflection based on the sayings above:
Nano’s words: “we may do a great deal”. I hope I have done some good in my long active life for people in all spheres of life where I’ve worked. Also in doings for peace, the environment, the missions etc, and the communities where I’ve lived. The results aren’t always obvious but I trust that some good happened. Only God knows.
It is by degrees that we grow and become. This large money plant grew from a tiny one to what it is today by degrees. It took nearly four years to grow to the size it is today. It required good soil, regular watering and care. As the acorn grew into a large sheltering oak so we have grown into a world wide Congregation. It is all thanks to the faith of our foundress and companions as they lived their lives day by day.
Following Nano’s desire to be of service in any part of the globe, today the Presentation Sisters minister in 19 countries.
